An Invitation to the Youth

With great joy and hope we invite you once again to participate in the All-India Essay Writing Event 2011!

This prestigious annual event is a collaborative effort of the United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan [UNIC] and Shri Ram Chandra Mission [SRCM] – a non-profit, educational and spiritual service organisation, to celebrate the International Day of Youth observed on the 12th of August every year.

Both the organisations are dedicated to the creation of a peaceful human society, founded upon love and harmony, and believe that this can be achieved best by the inculcation of moral and spiritual values in younger generations, which YOU represent, and in whom lies the hope of a better tomorrow.

Your willingness to participate in this event is, to us, a symbolic expression of your concern for the state of our world, and recognition of the crucial role that the youth must play in the creation of a new world inhabited by capable and balanced individuals. Therefore, as in the past years, we once again urge YOU to apply your mind and search your heart as you pen down your personal understanding of these topics.

Essay Event

The All-India Essay Writing event is an initiative of the Shri Ram Chandra Mission (SRCM), a non-profit, educational and spiritual service organisation. The event is organised each year in numerous educational institutions across the country. There are two categories of participation, and students have the freedom to express themselves in the following languages: English, Hindi and Telugu.

If you are studying in a school, you should write on the topic for Category 1. If you study at Under-Graduate or Post-Graduate level please write on the topic for Category 2.

Also go through the notes entitled "Something to think about" given under each topic. This will help you to understand your topic better.

Category 1 [Classes 9 through 12] (1000 words)

Change and the world changes for you

Something to think about:

  • Change they say is the need of the hour. What then is the most effective approach to bring about a lasting change in the world around us.
  • Is societal transformation possible without individual transformation?

Category 2 [UG and PG] (1000 words)

Success must bestow humility

Something to think about:

  • It is said that a man is known by the way he carries himself when he has nothing and the way he behaves when he has everything.
