Rest Not Till the Goal is Reached
The wisdom of spirituality says, "Look forward." The road may turn left and right. Don't keep a compass there and judge your direction. Follow the road. Often, the road may appear to be going backwards too. Still follow the road, because the destination is not in a particular direction, but is at the end of the road. And our road is Sahaj Marg. Our destination is a spiritual destination. We cannot know anything about both these things. I can never know anything, either about the road or about the destination. I cannot know about the road until I have gone over the road myself, and I cannot know anything about the destination until I have come to the destination. And if I am moving on the road continuously without stopping, every experience, every condition is a transitory experience and condition. So, the only logic in Sahaj Marg is the need to stay on the road, to continue to move on the road, and only on that road. If you cannot do it alone, follow the car in front of you - and that is Master.
The wisdom of this will be apparent when it is realised that each moment in time is pregnant with opportunity. It is wisdom to make use of this opportunity so generously provided by Nature, moment by moment, using them as steps on the ladder of spiritual progress. This is the way of progress towards the goal. How are we to grasp such opportunity? By being alert! If we miss the opportunity, progress may be set back and there is also the ever-present danger of losing the way. Once the way is lost, it may not be possible to find it again, even after many lives. Therefore, the need for permanent alertness is paramount.
As we say, not everybody in a yellow dress is a sannyasi. Not everybody
with money in his pocket is an intelligent fellow, or even rich, because
he may lose it the next moment! Just because we are here, it doesn't mean
we are Satsangis. Do we have that goal, which the Master says should be
our goal? Do we think of the Master as the Master and seek from Him the
highest that He can give us? So we can begin with anything. We can begin
with any goal; we can begin with any attitude towards the Master. But it
is a sign of our development, of our maturity on the spiritual path, how
our goal changes; how, what we ask from Him changes. Without that, there
is no indication of growth.
So let us be sensible in our approach to the Master, let us be serious in our approach to the practice, let us be steadfast in our adherence to the goal, and let us feel totally dedicated to achieving that goal, realising that every second of our existence is precious. I repeat, even if I am a sincere abhyasi, dedicated abhyasi, loving the Master with all my soul, but I have not reached the liberation point even, and if I should die, nothing can guarantee me success in the next life, nothing! So that is the minimum consideration: "Let me do what I can - maximum - in this existence and reach the goal."
