Give Your Heart to the Master And Your Mind to
the Preceptor
We all talk of the Master but we love our preceptors. I wonder how many
really love the Master! There is no use loving a preceptor and surrendering
to the preceptor - let me assure you of this. The Master alone gives.
So let us not deify our preceptors. They are our brothers and sisters.
Let us keep them at that level without losing our respect for them,
without losing the etiquette that we must have in relation to them,
but always knowing that it is the Master who gives. I stress again:
Love each other; love the preceptor; honour the preceptor; obey the
preceptor but as a preceptor. Don't substitute the preceptor for
the Master. It is the gravest sin that you can commit.
So if there is love, there comes understanding, because we understand
that which we love. Why do you understand your child and not your neighbour's
child? Precisely because you love your child. Love gives understanding.
Don't understand and try to love. Don't seek love through understanding,
but understanding through love. If this is possible, then you will find
this ideal of one Master, one Mission, one Method and preceptors are
only, shall I say, sevaks [people who serve] at our mercy, at our disposal,
to elevate us, to clean us, to prepare us for the Master's touch which
will just push us up from point to point. We help them to do their duty
towards us and therefore towards the Master. May they do their duty
towards us and therefore they fulfill their duty to the Master who has
appointed them. The Master is happy, you are happy, everybody is happy.
