It is 14 Kms away from the town of Palakkad and about 10 Kms away from the Palakkad Junction Railway station. At a distance of 8 Kms from the retreat centre is the famous Malampuzha Dam and Gardens which is known as "Vrindavan" of Kerala, maintained by Kerala Tourism Development Corporation. The Retreat is about 50 Kms from the Coimbatore Airport and two hours away from Nedumbassery Airport in Cochin.
The primary language of Kerala is Malayalam. People are also fairly fluent in Tamil and English.
This Retreat is situated in the midst of a forest which is a part of the Western ghats, known for its tropical plants and climate.
Presently the dormitory building is completed and is functional. The Library, Meditation hall and office quarters and the Master's cottage are under construction and are expected to be completed in another 6 to 9 months.
COMMENCEMENT OF OPERATION
The Retreat will be open from April, 14, 2008 as decided by Rev. Master with dormitory accommodation as well as Kitchen and dining area.
PURPOSE AND GUIDELINES
The following extract from Rev Master's talks gives the purpose & guidelines for the Retreat Centre.
The Retreat is available to all who want to retreat for periods of 3 days to 30 days, and it is proposed to have a preceptor couple living in this facility to give sittings when necessary. Please note that this is not an ashram, and there will be no daily meditation and things like that, since this is essentially for you to retreat into yourslef, introspect, brood over your condition as Bauble Maharaj has advised, do some writing if you wish, and go back into life spiritually fresh, mentally refreshed, and fit in body and mind. The facility is of course free of all costs, as everywhere else in Shri Ram Chandra Mission, but of course, you have to pay for your own transport, and such other facilities as you may need personally with you. Telephone facilities will be available on site for limited use.
There may not be an extensive library for reference initially, but it will be the Foundation's endeavour to build up a library slowly as it has done in CREST, Bangalore. It is hoped that you will all have a wonderful retreat, whatever be the period of your stay. Please dedicate yourself to it from the very beginning, for retreats are not meant to be holidays nor escapes from life, but escapes from yourself into your Self, with a capital "S" where the lies the Manasarovar - the lake into which you have a dip, and come out clean, fresh, bright."
Given below are some additional suggestions for your benefit:
- Avoid disturbance to fellow abhyasis. Cell phones/landline calls to be made only during meal timings.
- Keep the Centre clean at all times.
- Use hand torches in the dark.
