Jesus went up the mountain, and when he sat down his disciples
came to him.
He said,
"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom
of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for
they shall be
satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of
God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness's sake,
for theirs is
the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you, and utter
all kind of
evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for
your reward is
great in heaven, for so men persecuted the prophets who were before
you.
"You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its
taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good
for anything except to be thrown out and trodden under foot by
men.
"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot
be hid. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel. They
put it on a stand so that it gives light to all in the house.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good
works and give glory to God.
.
"You have heard it said, 'An eye for an eye, a tooth for
a tooth.' But I say to you, do not resist one who is evil. If
anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.
If anyone would sue you and take your coat, let him have your
cloak as well
. Give to him who begs from you, and do not
refuse him who would borrow from you.
"You have heard it said, 'You shall love your neighbour
and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, love your enemies and
pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of God.
For the sun shines on both the evil and the good, and rain falls
both on the just and the unjust. For if you love those who you
love, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do
the same? And if you salute only your brethren, what more are
you doing than others?

Q: The Sermon on the Mount is one of the most famous
of Jesus's talks with his disciples. Can you put into your own
words what he is saying? You can take this line by line to understand
each of the principles.
Q: There are so many important human principles in
this sermon. How do you think a person can live these principles?
O, Master!
Thou art the real goal of human life.
We are yet but slaves of wishes
Putting bar to our advancement,
Thou art the only God and power
To bring us up to that stage.
