Dear Sister / Brother:

REQUEST FOR VOLUNTEERS

Babuji Memorial Ashram, Manapakkam, Chennai, India
Report by brother S. Prakash, Ashram Maintenance Manager – Manapakkam, India

Many of us are aware there was extensive damage to our ashram during the recent floods at the Babuji Memorial Ashram in Manapakkam, Chennai, India. Much of the corrective work has been completed because of the incredible effort put forth by the volunteer abhyasis who came from all over India. Rev. Master has since reopened the Babuji Memorial Ashram to visiting abhyasis. However, much works remains and the following is list of some of the construction work that requires priority attention to finish existing projects that are pending and also to correct the problems and damage sustained during the floods:

  • Reconstruction of some of the boundary walls that had given away during the flash floods.
  •

  • Repair work of the "Sahaj River" bed - the canal that carries excess water and which flows through the ashram - which had been partly eroded and needs repair work.
  •

  • The new Kitchen area construction work needs to be hastened and completed.
  •

  • The Lalaji Memorial Omega School is offering hostel facilities for its students (Class V to Class VIII) from the ensuing academic year onwards. The construction work to provide the hostel facilities has started in right earnest and we need to expedite the work as the construction has to be completed before middle of May '2006.
  •

For all of the above work, which is scheduled to be completed by the middle of May 2006 at the latest, we need lots of able bodied (say in the age group of 18 and 40) abhyasi volunteers who can do hard labor work. Volunteers who are interested in offering their services for a period of at least 2 weeks at a stretch (excluding the travel time to and from Chennai) are requested to confirm their participation through email / phone to:

Br. S. Prakash, Ashram Maintenance Manager

The Centres-in-Charge are requested to make announcements in their respective centres during Sunday Satsanghs to this effect. The visiting abhyasi volunteers must carry an introduction letter from their Centres-in-Charge and carry their abhyasi ID cards as well. During your stay in Chennai, you will be provided food & accommodation at Manapakkam ashram. Looking forward to your participation in this urgent and pressing work.
