Etymology of Meditation and Dhyana
Meditation, in its simplest definition, means to think continuously of one thing. However, this definition falls short of conveying the depth and transformative power of the practice. In Sanskrit, the word 'Dhyana' offers a richer understanding.
'Dhi' refers to ultimate wisdom or the illumination of higher intelligence, as invoked in the Gayatri Mantra. 'Yana' means a vehicle. Together, 'Dhyana' represents the process—a vehicle that leads us to divine wisdom and connects us with Divinity itself. It is more than just focused thinking; it is a profound spiritual practice.
As we reflect on our own meditative journeys, we may ask ourselves: Has our practice brought us closer to incremental wisdom? Are we progressing toward the ultimate realization that meditation promises?
Now, progressing beyond our individual meditation journeys, by meditating together, we strengthen the egregore - a collective consciousness of love, peace, and light. The more people who participate, the stronger this positive force becomes, nourishing humanity as a whole. So, let us come together and meditate as one. Invite your family, friends, and colleagues to join this powerful movement and help amplify the energy that heals and uplifts the world.
