Why Every Heartfulness Practitioner Must Read Holy Tirthankars: In the Light of Heartfulness
The Birth of Raja Yoga
Long before the Ramayana, long before scriptures took shape, and long before even the idea of “religion” existed, a great rishi walked this Earth. Seventy-two generations before Raja Dasharath, this sage in deep contemplation searched for the key to liberation.
Babuji Maharaj writes about him in the book, "Efficacy of Raja Yoga," in the chapter, "Raja Yoga," describing how this ancient sage in the Central Region discovered that the world had emerged from a stirring force, kshobh, or upadan karana. That power was like the thought power within each human being. If thought can bring the universe into being, it can certainly transform the individual. This realization became the foundation of Raja Yoga, or the king of Yogas.
This ancient rishi remained unnamed in our spiritual tradition.
Now, in his latest book, "Holy Tirthankars: In the Light of Heartfulness," Revered Daaji boldly discloses who this sage truly was. In doing so, Daaji bridges ancient Jain wisdom with the transformative practices of Heartfulness. As the chapters unfold, the lives of the 24 revered Jain sages, or Tirthankars, emerge as luminous examples of transformation through inner purity and dhyana.
Why does this book matter to those walking the Heartfulness path?
Each Tirthankar’s journey mirrors a core teaching of Sahaj Marg, whether it’s cleaning impressions, regulating the senses, transcending ego, or embracing simplicity. Their lives embody the very principles we practice daily in Heartfulness. The simplicity we strive for through Babuji Maharaj’s Ten Maxims is reflected in the Tirthankars’ inner renunciation and outer harmony.
Each Tirthankar attained enlightenment under a tree. Daaji has reminded us that trees retain Pranahuti, and that this active, dynamic energy is propelling our
evolution forward. The same rare trees under which Tirthankars meditated, called Deeksha Vrikshas, are now being planted and protected at Kanha Shanti Vanam.
A Living Transmission of Light
The Tirthankars affirm what many of us have glimpsed in our meditations: that liberation is a shared destiny of all hearts willing to turn inward. This book is a lineage of light. To read it is to remember the journey our soul has already begun.
