For more information, please contact un.info@srcm.org 2011 Commemorations May 15, 2011 - The United Nations International Day of Families The United Nations International Day of Families - The United Nations General Assembly of 1993 proclaimed Family Day to be observed each 15 May as an opportunity to promote a better understanding of the functions, problems, strengths and needs of families, and to build upon their strengths. August 12, 2011 - The United Nations International Day of Youth The United Nations International Day of Youth - The United Nations General Assembly of 1999 declared an International Day in Celebration of Youth. Commemorated annually, Youth Day offers the world an opportunity to recognise the potential of youth and to celebrate their achievements. 21 September 2011 - The International Day of Peace The International Day of Peace was established by the UN General Assembly in 1981 for “commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace within and among all nations and people.” Twenty years later, the General Assembly decided that 21 September would be observed annually as a “day of global ceasefire and non-violence” and invited all Member States, organisations and individuals to commemorate the day through education and public awareness. Shri Ram Chandra Mission centres and their members (abhyasis) around the world organised programmes around the theme, “Make Your Voice Heard… Be the Change.” Groups participated in informational and prayer events at public and private venues, commemorating the International Day of Peace. At these events, everyone agreed to come together in a silent, non-denominational prayer-meditation for the integration of humanity and the well-being of the people of the world. On 20 November, people across the globe engage in activities promoting the welfare of the children everywhere, in accordance with the ideals and objectives of the UN Charter. Shri Ram Chandra Mission centres and their members (abhyasis) around the world organised and participated in informational and prayer events commemorating Children’s Day. At these events, abhyasis, their friends, families, neighbours and associates gathered together. The children described their ideas of their future through pictures and stories; the importance of prayer was discussed. All joined in a silent, non-denominational prayer-meditation for the integration of humanity and the well-being of the children of the world. The date has since served to mark the day worldwide, setting out a broad range of fundamental human rights and freedoms to which all men and women, everywhere in the world, are entitled, without any distinction. For more information, please contact un.info@srcm.org Annual All India Essay Writing Event Organised by the Shri Ram Chandra Mission in collaboration with the United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan, the Annual All India Essay Writing Event is being held in commemoration of the International Day of Youth.
